

Leading up to the 2010 municipal election, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce launched GreatCalgary.ca, an initiative to get Calgarians talking about ways to make Calgary even greater. We released 15 Policy Action Briefs in the business community's priority themes of governance, growth and development and finance. These concise policy pieces present ideas and opportunities to strengthen Calgary, offering sensible actions that can be implemented right away.

As citizens and businesses slowly recover from the Great Recession, City Council should take steps to encourage economic growth. Key Calgary Chamber of Commerce recommendations for the 2011 City budget include setting a fiscal target to prioritize spending, moving from a three-year budget to a budget introduced annually, increasing the independence of the Auditor, and communicating the competitiveness of the total municipal tax burden.
“Minimizing the tax increase on Calgary citizens and businesses will help encourage growth and new jobs,” said Adam Legge, President & CEO with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

Today the Calgary Chamber of Commerce released its 2011-12 pre-budget recommendations as Alberta's Minister of Finance Ted Morton delivered a keynote address to membership. Creating a leading fiscal structure and tackling health care costs were the Chamber's main priorities.
"With our resource wealth endowment, Alberta has the potential to create a world-class fiscal framework," said Adam Legge, President & CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. "We must seize the opportunity to achieve long-term prosperity for all Albertans."
