Currently, the City Auditor is appointed by City Council, directed by Council and reports to Council. The Auditor is not truly independent like Canada’s Auditor General Sheila Fraser or Alberta’s Auditor General Merwan Saher.
The Chamber supports a truly independent City Auditor that controls the work plan and has the resources to do the job properly. This independent oversight is important as City Council directs a major corporation with operating expenditures over $2 billion per year and capital spending of $4 billion over the next three years.
