Alberta’s economic health is dependent on the ability to export. In 2008, Alberta exported $110 billion in merchandise, roughly 37 per cent of the provincial GDP.
The province’s key export industries of mining and energy, manufacturing and agricultural products are distributed to 192 countries. However, almost 90 per cent of Alberta’s exports are to the United States. Of the remainder, over half went to Asia.
Elimination of international and interprovincial trade barriers are paramount to Alberta’s future growth and prosperity.
