The Calgary Chamber of Commerce would like to thank everyone who came out to this special event. We had the ideal combination of great weather, a beautiful golf course and, of course, some of Calgary’s top leaders from business, sports, community organizations and politics. Again, a special thank you to this years sponsors, companies and individuals that made this tournment possible.
Stay tuned for information on next year's tournment and sponsorship opportunities!
Play with the Presidents is an event at which Chamber members mix and mingle with senior corporate leaders. It is an important opportunity for our membership to meet senior business leaders in a casual setting. It is also a major fundraiser for the Chamber which helps fund our ongoing programming and maintenance of our heritage building.
2010 is the year we will renew Play with the Presidents with some format changes and upgrades.

Denny Morrison, the 2010 Olympics Gold Medallist in Men’s Long Track Speed Skating Team Pursuit, has confirmed that he will be available for auction as a Special Guest golfer. Bid successfully on Morrison, and spend your golfing day hearing inside stories from Turin (where Morrison won silver) and Vancouver 2010.
Or spend the day with former Flames Goaltender Mike Vernon. In his 21 year career, Vernon won the Stanley Cup twice (1989 with Calgary and 1997 with Detroit), and also won the Conn Smythe as Playoff MVP in 1997. Vernon was the second Flame in franchise history to have his jersey retired, in 2007.
Morrison and Vernon join three other special guests available for auction: PGA Golfer Stephen Ames, Alberta Energy Minister Ron Liepert, and Alberta Justice Minister Alison Redford. The auctioneer will be the inimitable Bearcat Murray, so be ready for some early-morning fun!
Sponsors: Sponsorships range from $3,500 for a gold hole to $10,000 to sponsor a major element of the tournament. Click here for details or contact Kim Koss at kkoss@calgarychamber.com or (403) 750-0411. Sponsors receive logo and name recognition, premium tables at the banquet, and other benefits to highlight their support.
Foursomes: Foursomes are priced at $1600, a discount of $200 over the cost of four individual players. At your option, you may reserve one of the four spaces to host a Special Guest or bid on a Celebrity Guest to play with you as part of a fivesome (see below for details). Click here to register.
Individual Players: Individuals are priced at $450. The Chamber will assemble foursomes on your behalf (you may request other individual registrants you wish to play with). There is no guarantee of a Special Guest in foursomes assembled from individuals. Click here to register.
Foursomes: In the past, teams have purchased foursomes. A corporate president or special guest has been added as a fifth golfer, plus one volunteer to keep score. This has proven to be expensive and also significantly lengthens the time it takes to play 18 holes. In 2010, we will play with foursomes, not five-somes.
Corporate Leaders: In recent years, some participants have observed that the most senior corporate leaders have not been in attendance. In 2010, we intend to reinvigorate the participation of Calgary’s most senior business leaders, along with some prominent figures from the political and sporting worlds.
So far our confirmed Special Guests for 2010 include Calgary Flames President Ken King; Alberta Environment Minister Rob Renner, Agrium President Mike Wilson; Michael Tims of Peters & Co., Victor Buffalo, Director of Peace Hills Trust; Charlie Fischer of Climate Change Central (formerly Nexen CEO); Linda Hohol, Director of Alberta Health Services (and former President of the TSX Venture Exchange); Larry Shelley, President of Coril Holdings; Chief Charles Weasel Head, Treaty 7 Grand Chief; Arlene Flock, President of Flagworks; Dave Collyer, President of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers; Murray Smith, of the TD Securities Energy Advisory Board; Gordon Nelson, Vice-President of Rogers Communications; Simon Vincent, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce; Guy Huntingford, President of WinSport; Dr. Greg Powell, President of STARS Air Ambulance; and Darrell Graham, General Manager AB and BC, Rogers.
Foursome Options: Teams buying a foursome in 2010 will have four options for engaging with the business, political and sports leaders in attendance:
1. Buy a foursome and fill it as you see fit. Bring four people of your choice and golf in our tournament. Mix and mingle with Special Guests during breakfast and the banquet.
2. Buy a foursome and bring your own company president to golf as one of your four. Fill the remaining spots with clients or staff.
3. Buy a foursome and fill it with three people, leaving one spot open for a corporate leader of the Chamber’s choosing (chosen in cooperation with the host company insofar as is possible from the roster of committed Special Guests).
4. Buy a foursome and bid on a Celebrity Guest during the auction prior to the tournament. If successful, you will play as a fivesome for the day. Confirmed Celebrities include PGA Golfer Stephen Ames, Energy Minister Ron Liepert, Justice Minister Alison Redford, 2010 Olympic Gold Medallist Denny Morrison (speed skating) and former Calgary Flame goaltender Mike Vernon.

Prior to the tournament on the morning of July 6, Bearcat Murray will conduct a live auction for our celebrity guests. If you are successful, the celebrity (and a driver) will join your team and you will golf as a fivesome.
A portion of the auction proceeds will be directed to the charity of the Celebrity's choice, and your company may be entitled to a tax receipt directly from the recipient charity.
